NCJRO Members in the Classroom Across North Carolina
Members of the NCJRO traveled across North Carolina to provide elementary, middle and high school band students the opportunity to hear about the importance of jazz history, jazz music, and jazz education. Thanks to a gracious grant by the Mary Duke Biddle Foundation, the Jazz Foundation of North Carolina, Inc. (the NCJRO's sponsor) sent several members of the NCJRO on this mission to spread the gospel of jazz and to "pass the torch" to aspiring jazz musicians. We thank those students and their directors for the opportunity to come and share our wisdom and philosophy!

Educational Clinics
Everywhere the NCJRO performs, Maestro Ketch and the musicians are eager to teach. The NCJRO offers a rane of educational opportunities, from a tour of the orchestra for children to master classes and jazz residencies. The NCJRO is committed to educating the public about the distincly American art form of jazz. Its educational programs and music guides students, educators and the general public in playing, teaching, and appreciating the richness and diversity of jazz music.
Pre-Concert Lecture Would your audience enjoy attending a lecture program centered on the music the NCJRO will perform during its concert? If so, why not augment your presentation with a lively and informative pre-concert lecture. Lectures by James Ketch and members of the orchestra can be scheduled before concerts or at other times during the orchestra's visit.
Master Classes let the conductor and musicians critique higher-level music students, instrument sections, or entire ensembles on technique, style, and other aspects of jazz performance.
Clinics for Students focus on a variety of skills, such as improvisation, accompanying, ensemble playing, arranging, transcribing and others. Clinics for Teachers explore topics such as organizing an ensemble, rehearsal techniques, selecting appropriate materials, identifying and correcting errors, programming a concert and much more. Jazz Residencies combine public perfromances, youth concerts, and small-group sessions with clinics and workshops for jazz students and teachers in a multi-day event. Residencies The NCJRO produces multi-day residencies led by members of the orchestra that aim to bring jazz to non-traditional audiences and develop future listeners. While in residence, artists conduct educational programs as well as concerts. The NCJRO provides interactive, hour-long performance/demonstrations.
Custom Packages The NCJRO can custom tailor a performance, clinic, master class, lecture and residency to meet the demands of the academic curricula encompassing Jazz and American culture, American Jazz history, etc. Whatever your needs may be, we can arrange to provide all needed components to your school or institution for a memorable and interactive musical experience.
